More Video Editing for NG Kids
POSTED ON 08TH AUG 2013
Last weekend I was given the opportunity to edit two interviews for National Geographic Kids magazine (NG Kids). I have worked for NG Kids before on a previous project, which included an interview with the animation character designer of the Ice Age movies and another being a video on Iceland's natural wonders, highlighting ongoing environmental issues. Since the team were so impressed with my previous work, they requested that I edit the following interviews. This project revolved around the upcoming release of Disney's new movie 'Planes'. The first interview is with the voice of Dottie, played by Teri Hatcher, a friend of the protagonist in the movie. The other is with the producer and director of the movie, Traci Balthazor-Flynn and Klay Hall, looking into how they created the film.
For these videos, I organised each of the shots and planned what versions were going to be produced. Unfortunately because of some audio recording issues, text screen versions of the interview questions were required (this is where the interviewer's camera and voice is replaced with a screen that has the question for viewers to read). Each of these had to be individually created for each question. As with the previous project, nameplates providing the interviewee's name and job role were also created.
My experience of editing the Ice Age and Iceland videos definately helped me produce a better quality product this time round. I worked more efficiently and made a lot less mistakes, both of which saved time. Like the past project, I'd compose a version of the video and submit it to NG Kids for review. They would then come back with any changes that they thought would improve the product. I'd make the changes and resubmit until there were no more amendment requests. I also produced different versions for NG Kids, that they could choose between; a two camera edit, a one camera edit and a one camera with question text board edit for each video.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the videos!
