My Website Version 2

POSTED ON 24TH MAY 2013

Since my last post I have finished the second year of my Computer Science degree. It feels great and I am now anxiously awaiting my results. During this past month I have been completely renovating my website;  providing it with new functionality and aesthetics.

Screenshots of how the website looks on a mobile device

The first thing I did was migrate to a proper domain name which you should already know if you have arrived here (by the way D.J.A.W are the initials of my name). For every page on my website I have completely redesigned the layout so that it makes use of responsive design technology, so that the pages re-size and re-flow the content to suit any kind of display be it desktop, tablet or phone resolution (this transformation was the main thing that took the longest amount of time). I’ve learnt that using an FTP client is faster and easier than their online counterparts. There is an unimplemented new layout for blog posts that feature summaries of related posts below the main articles. I’ve moved all of the content around on the server to make the web addresses appear neater for instance /about.php is now just /about, indecently this also makes working with the file structure on the server a lot easier too. Almost every page has had it’s code re-factored to improve modularisation. I’ve also added a bit more validation and security to each page. Finally I have improved how times and dates are recorded in the database.

I have a lot of new features planned for this website, however the main thing will be the division of the portfolio. It will be split up into the three main areas of what I do; software development, web-based projects and photography events. Each will have features crucial to each such as a change log for software projects or a gallery for photography projects.

Exciting times ahead,

Thanks for reading
